Russel's Viper (D. Russelii) found near school. This is the fourth Russel's Viper found in the area in over 10 years. This snake is one of the Big Four - the highly venomous sbakes found in India, along with the Cobra, the Common Krait and the Saw Scaled Viper. This snake canbe easily identified from the chain of oval links from head to tailand is usually dark brown. When the snake is threatened, it curls up into a turban shape and makes a loud hissing like a pressure cooker. It does this to warn us of its presence so that we don't go near it and leave it alone. Snakes do not want conflict with humans, they are scared of us. When confronted with a snake, do not strike out or make any sudden moves. Stay perfectly still so that the snake can move away from you without feeling threatened.
